Remember the sweet innocent girl riding beside her husband as he leads her to the army of Khal’s in the Drama series Game of Thrones. That is the place in the corner of this world where a new person joins a company with a lot of hopes of working towards the betterment of the company, not realizing the fact that he/ she is in the lowest order of hierarchy and has to work a lot to reach the top, ‘THE THRONE’. Trust no one and keep your dragons close is the only success mantra which can be provided to this newbie at this point of time.

This is a story of how your work environment affects you and leads you to adopt the already prevailing work culture. From relying on others to taking a stand for yourself like Khaleesi did, forming her own Khalasar with people who stood by her side, life takes a turn. You have people to lead, mentors to follow and a whole bunch of expectations from yourself. From people trying to steal your USP (your dragons) to cutting (killing) them off, a corporate world teaches you simple Darwin’s theory that the fittest survives.  Forming armies, forming new armies and another new army who support you to reach the ultimate level of the hierarchy, with difficulties at each step you take and decisions you make to manage your work life, your love life and a set of promises you make for yourself. You want to get noticed at every stage, the four easy and noticeable actions that inevitably open doors to bigger and better opportunities are being innovative, making recommendations rather than pointing out the problems, raising your hands in every opportunity you can participate on and supporting others who needs help[1]. As said by Andy teach, a corporate veteran and author of From Graduation to Corporation: The Practical Guide to Climbing the Corporate Ladder One Rung at a Time, “Most, but not all, still want to move up the corporate ladder, but climbing up, isn’t always done in a straight line[2].

The path to success has never been easy, be it be the real or the reel world. You may ask yourself if you have landed a good job? Your elation may be justified but remember your journey has just begun. Only when perseverance prevails over indolence, things start to come under your basket. This is when your work comes in light, people follow you and your focus drives you towards your ultimate goals. This is a story of snatching, grabbing, seizing, stealing, looting, achieving, securing and obtaining the position called the IRON THRONE. You are no more at the bottom of the ladder rather you and your company will have one more potential leader who will start his/her journey the way you went about it.

The girl is no more sweet and innocent rather she is Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, the rightful heir to the iron throne, rightful queen of the Andals and the first men, protector of seven kingdoms, the mother of dragon, The Khalessi of the Great Grass sea, The unburnt, The breaker of chains.

In the words of famous characters in Game of Thrones series “Take my advice. Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armor, and it can never be used to harm you” and “Always keep your foes confused. If they are never certain who you are or what you want, they cannot know what you are like to do next”.
